Sit Back And Relax — Wait, Wrong SBAR
Katie and Joshua return once again after another short hiatus. Today, we kick off a four-part healthcare communications series. If you've ever worked in healthcare or had to do any type of medical documentation, you probably have an idea of what an SBAR is. But do you know what it was originally designed for? This is definitely something you weren't taught in school. This was a wild ride to record, so come along with us as we explore the SBAR!
In-Episode SBAR:
S: [Joshua Honaker, Pharmacy Intern] Pt presents to community pharmacy with congestion, “feels bad when outside”. Looking for OTC product, resolve today.
B: history of seasonal allergies, NKDA, no smoking or drinking, regular exercise, stays hydrated, paying out of pocket but expressed no cost concern, pt is a student, avoid meds causing drowsiness
A: Pt shows allergic rhinitis symptoms, pt should use a second generation antihistamine product to combat and prevent allergy symptoms, and may supplement with pseudoephedrine to clear congestion
R: pt to take Zyrtec (cetirizine) 10mg 1 tab po qd for next three weeks or until allergen counts go down. Pt may take Sudafed (pseudoephedrine) 2 tab (60mg total) po q4-6 hrs prn (up to 4 doses a day) to help with congestion, take with at least 8oz water per dose. Begin today. JH will call pt to follow up in two days.
